Peace of mind is priceless! That’s why we at Bloor Animal Hospital in Toronto, offer and highly recommend pet microchip identification. Collars and tags can fall off and be lost. Tattoos eventually fade and can be removed.
Even the most responsible pet owners can’t always guarantee their pet won’t get lost. A leash could break or slip out of your hand, a pet could push through a screen door or window, or a contractor or friend might accidentally leave a door or gate open.
A microchip is a very tiny electronic device that is injected under the skin over the back of the neck. Each pet receives a unique identification number, which is recorded in a national directory and can be read by a portable scanner.Hospitals, pounds, shelters and humane societies across Canada and the United States are equipped with these scanners, giving them the ability to immediately identify a lost pet. A quick phone call to the national directory and your lost pet is identified and you are notified of its whereabouts. As an additional bonus, many licensing offices are waiving the annual dog and cat license fee if your pet is microchipped.
